FROM SCARS 2 STRENGTH: WHY I BUILT THIS

My name is Billy Jones, and Scars 2 Strength Recovery Services was not created from something I learned only in a classroom. It was built from a life I was fortunate enough to survive.

For 25 years, I struggled with substance use. My journey included incarceration, homelessness, overdoses, hospitalizations, broken trust, damaged relationships, and more pain than I could ever fit into one blog post. I experienced 14 intentional overdoses and had to be brought back to life six times. My wife and son witnessed things no family should ever have to witness.

There were many times when it looked like my story was over. But it wasn’t.

On November 15, 2019, I began a new chapter. Recovery gave me the opportunity to rebuild my life, repair relationships, become present for my family, and discover a purpose greater than anything I had imagined.

The painful parts of my past became an education nobody could purchase for me. Today, I combine that lived experience with professional training as a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor and Recovery Coach. I understand addiction from the perspective of the person struggling, the family desperately trying to help, and the professional attempting to find the right resources.

That is why I built Scars 2 Strength Recovery Services.

THE PURPOSE BEHIND SCARS TO STRENGTH

Scars 2 Strength exists to help individuals and families navigate substance use, mental health challenges, treatment, and recovery.

Too many families are left trying to figure everything out on their own. They may not understand the treatment system, know what level of care their loved one needs, or recognize the difference between helping and enabling. They often receive conflicting information while facing decisions that can have life-changing consequences.

People struggling with substance use can feel equally lost. They may want help but have no idea where to begin. Others may be frightened, ashamed, resistant to treatment, or convinced that change is impossible.

My job is to meet people where they are and help them determine the next right step.

Scars 2 Strength offers recovery coaching, family coaching and consultation, adolescent and family support, intervention services, sober companion support, case management, treatment placement coordination, public speaking, and education.

Every situation is different. There is no single plan that works for everyone. Effective support begins with listening, understanding the entire situation, and developing a plan based on the individual’s actual needs.

THE ENTIRE FAMILY DESERVES SUPPORT

Addiction does not affect only one person. It reaches spouses, parents, children, siblings, employers, and entire communities.

Families often spend years living in crisis. They lose sleep, miss work, spend money they do not have, and repeatedly try to prevent the next emergency. Love can slowly become fear, exhaustion, resentment, and desperation.

Helping the person who is struggling is important, but supporting the family is just as necessary.

Families need honest guidance. They need boundaries that are clear and sustainable. They need to understand which actions encourage recovery and which actions may unintentionally allow the destructive cycle to continue.

Most importantly, families need hope that is supported by a realistic plan.

YOUR PAST DOES NOT HAVE TO DEFINE YOUR FUTURE

I cannot erase my past, and I would never pretend that the damage did not happen. Those experiences left scars on me and on the people who love me.

But scars are evidence of survival.

Recovery allowed me to take the worst parts of my life and use them to help other people. Today, I get to walk alongside individuals who believe they are beyond help. I get to support families who feel hopeless and help them find a direction. I get to watch people come back to life.

That is what Scars 2 Strength means.

It means that your worst day does not have to become your final chapter. It means that pain can become purpose. It means that the things you survived can eventually become the very things that allow you to help someone else survive.

If you or someone you love is struggling, you do not have to navigate it alone.

If there is breath, there is hope.
